Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Removal

Can all hair colors and parts of the body be treated?
The treatment can be customized according to color, texture and location. Gray hair unfortunately cannot be treated at the present time although using the Galaxy HR some gray hairs may disappear.

Can all skin colors be treated?
Yes – Using special filters and proper technique all skin colors can be treated.

Is anesthesia needed?
No – we use cold gel to suppress or diminish any pain. If needed, the Zimmer-Cryo 5 device is used, reaching -32°C.

How many treatments are needed?
Some areas like underarms, bikinis, lower legs and men’s neck respond very well and quickly. These areas may need three to six treatments; other areas may need up to 8 treatments.

Are there any side effects?
In our hands and in over 10,000 patients, few if any long-term effects have been encountered. Redness of the skin is most common and it disappears while in the office or soon thereafter. Darkening of the skin seldom occurs.

Are there any restrictions?
None – We advise a sun blocker be used. Sun exposure should be limited if treating the chest or lower extremities. Recently tanned individuals are requested to wait a few weeks.

How does hair removal using Intense Pulsed Light or Laser differ from other methods?
Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are temporary. Electrolysis is tedious, invasive and requires a very long time to finish. Using IPL technology up to 300 hairs are affected with each flash of light. Because of variable filters are used all skin types can be treated and parameters can be changed to fit the individual. Using the Luminis-One gives a more effective light distribution and constant cooling of the skin. Our treatments are adaptable to different conditions and using the Galaxy-HR gives us the flexibility needed to be successful.

How does laser hair removal work?
The wavelengths of the lasers we use are in the 800+ nanomere range and this is very adequate for hair removal since the location of the hair bulb is reached and destroyed. The Sonata laser will fire up to three times per second making it one of the fastest lasers available. The two types lasers used have constant cooling of the skin so the possibility of the skin being affected is minimized. The Zimmer-Cryo 5 cooling device is sometimes used.

How long will the results last?
In a study we did on 1,200 of our patients, follow-up of 2 years after the last treatment, 90% had no hair re-growth. Since that review of cases, we have found that the percentage is about the same except in those that a hormonal condition was found. We can't say this is permanent hair removal, but our results are very significant.
